Mrs. Lillian G. (nee Penez) Willcox, born in Mouscron, Belgium in 1923, married in Copenhagen, Denmark to William A. Willcox of Ossining, NY, settling in New York City, NY in 1964 died on Tuesday July 6, 2010 at the Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, NJ after a brief stay.
Services will be held in the Brookdale Reformed Church, 16 Bellevue Avenue, Bloomfield (973-338-7676 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 973-338-7676 end_of_the_skype_highlighting) on Sunday, July 18 at 2PM.
Lillian was an accomplished and productive artist, having graduated from the Institute of Arts and Textile in Roubaix, France and the Art Academy in Gent, Belgium. She won numerous awards for her paintings in both schools.
Lillian enjoyed painting in oil and watercolor in her younger age, designed fine china, crystal and silverware in her working years and creating stoneware pottery in her later years as well as designing jewelry.
She also volunteered with the American Red Cross in New York City.
She is the wife of the late William A. Willcox, the mother of Michele W. Bruhn and her husband Max of Bloomfield NJ, the grandmother of Erik Bruhn of Bloomfield NJ and Peter Bruhn of Burlington, VT.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers to Meals on Wheels, 415 East 93rd Street, New York City, NY 10128-6904 would be appreciated.
May Lillian be remembered fondly by all and may she rest in peace.
We wish the Bruhn family the joy of many fond memories of Lillian G. Willcox. She was a force, loving, encouraging and inspiring. Her life was a wonderful example of the comfort of family, the gift of creativity and the benefits of curiosity.
